Walk Through a Wedding with Justin & Mary : One Month Later

I was excited. Beyond excited. The next two days were going to be life changing, mind changing, many things a’changin’.

I’d been an avid enthusiast of Justin & Mary for a longtime coming. Always enamored how freely they share all they’ve experienced and know. Just that alone opened my eyes to something big. The real questions get asked: Why? Why is this important? What is our purpose? Why are we drawn to what we do? Moreover, how do we intend to succeed in getting there?

Back to basics.

“To Have and To BHLDN.” That was this past June’s theme. All the glitz and glam. Sitting in the Restoration Hardware blue living room, a roundtable of ten photographers and newfound friends pondered these details and queries, getting to the root of what matters most to each of us. What’s behind every click of the shutter. We shared our dreams. Our juicy goals. What drives us. Why. How our why ultimately leads to success. It’s just up to us to define these traits.

I never thought it would be so difficult to answer. I knew what I envisioned, what life would be like in choosing this path: I carried on about a farmhouse, with a porch, and children, a pack of dogs, a home office with bright, airy windows, dinner parties, vintage maps and eclectic artworks flanking the walls. But, most importantly, what moves me is time. Time to spend with my family. Time for the love of my life. Time to enjoy and savor with our future babies. Just time.

So I sit here continuing to try and verbalize my why. The quintessential mission statement. All the words and ideas are there, but once I grab the pencil they retreat as if the British were coming. For the moment, the definitive words coming to mind are vintage, fine art, romantic, ethereal, raconteuse. It’s a work in progress.

Alas, a big, fat thank you to Justin & Mary for all that know and do. You’re like photographer angels put on this Earth to do good. You guys need a J&M cape.

And lastly, a shout out to newfound friends: Maria + Kristen + Melinda & Autumn + Caroline + Ryan & Ahren + Gorete + Allison.
