B&Co. : Being a Doer and the Good that Comes From It

It started with the conscious decision to start reading real books again. Don’t get me wrong, I read online all the time, but I tell you, my grammar and enigmatic childhood spelling abilities are faltering (and I blame my computer for it). I tried seeking inspiration going the very literal route – wedding magazines – but ehhh, no dice. Then, the simple wisdom of my dear girlfriend Jill – with whom I share a myriad of foodie, gardening and lifestyle convictions – offered up such a simple and perfect solution to my inspiration lull unbeknownst to her at the time, “Buy a book about feng shui.” It was like finding the very last piece of a jigsaw puzzle or finally remembering where you put something you swore you’d remember (in some safe place, yeah right). Without hesitation, I jumped right on it, hit up my B&N, and I swear to you, my whole upbringing and way of detail-oriented living suddenly made sense and, fittingly as a libra, a sense of balance took shape and the creative door swung open. If you recognize this feeling, share a collective “Ahhh” with me.

Feng Shui to-do’s mixed with a little supplemental Great Gatsby and I call that a serious reading combo. Hello, styled shoot ideas of gilded sassiness. And, I must add, I can’t wait to see the new movie!!!!

Let’s go earlier back now. This past March. I was seeking an existing community of Connecticut-based wedding professionals and coming up dry. You’ve got photojournalists, landscapists, and every type of -ist you can dream of, but nothing truly hands-on and specific to wedding photographers. So, as the Connecticut transplant I am, I made the decision: if I can’t find what I’m looking for, then I’m going to try to create it myself. And that’s what I did. I was sincerely humbled by the more-than-eager responses to get together, brainstorm and discover how we can best help one another in this budding industry. Yesterday I met with Robyn Blasi, Lillie Fortino and Michelle Girard at Heirloom in New Haven (my most favorite local dig ever) and had a blast tossing around ideas, talking Business 101 and allocating a collaborative effort. I look forward to seeing what comes of this fabulous, budding community!

After the meeting, Robyn and I dabbled in the glorious weather in and around the Yale campus. Here are some of my favorites for our charming little stroll:

It’s just such a great feeling when hard work pays off. You do, just to do. If I’ve learned anything on this journey so far it’s be vulnerable, work together and have no fear. The past couple of weeks have been chock stock of new pathways to inspiration and community . It has, without a doubt, breathed new life and positive energy into my soul. And next on the list, cultivate the veggie garden. Ohhh yeah.

If you are a Connecticut professional and are interested in having a meetup in the near future, give me a shout at info[at]brighamandco.com. 🙂
